In 1848 Louis Brandt made these Omega pocket watches in La Chaux-de-Fonds. These pocket watches were sold in Europe. After Louis Brandt died in 1879, his two sons Louis Paul Brandt and Cesar Brandt moved the company to Bienne in 1880 and had the assembly workshop system. The two gave up the assembly workshop system and went in for in-house manufacturing and total production control when they moved the factory to Gurzelen area of Biel-Bienne. The company is still in the Gurzelen area of Biel-Bienne.  Only in 1894 the watches where given the brand name of Omega. The name Omega was used initially as the name for one of the watch movement calibers.

In 1903 Louis Paul Brandt and Cesar Brandt died. Now the company came in the hands of four persons. The oldest of these four people was Paul Emile Brandt who was only 23 years old. In 1930 the company got merged with Tissot. During this time Omega produced some lovely watches for which it is well known even today. These are the vintage watches from the Omega series of watches. Military watches and watches for pilots were produced during World War II. During this time of Omega’s merger with Tissot Omega Constellation watches, Omega Speedmaster chronograph, Omega Seamaster waterproof sports watch, and the Seamaster Diver where made.

There was economic crisis in 1980 and then the company merged with another large Swiss conglomerate ASUAG, to make a new company called ASUAG-SSIH. This too fell over and the company was taken over by a private group and now called SMH. The Omega Company still exists as SMH today. It is owned by the Swatch group.

Some famous personalities who own Omega watches include John F Kennedy, Prince William, George Clooney, Nicole Kidman, and Cindy Crawford. James Bond has worn the Omega watches in films since 1995. The official time keeping devices of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics are also Omega timepieces. The first watch on the moon in 1969 was the Omega watches. Even NASA has preferred to use the Omega watches.

In 1999 Omega introduced the first co-axial escapement watch called Calibre 2500. This is a famous advancement in horology. The co-axial escapement significantly reduces friction. In 2007 the Calibre 8500 and Calibre 8501 where introduced with the same co-axial movements.

The Omega Seamaster is associated with James Bond since he wore the watch in the movie GoldenEye. This watch has a second crown at 10 o’clock which is a helium release valve. After the diver goes to a great depth the helium is released out of the watch. Of course in the James Bond movies this valve is transformed into hidden gadgets. Omega has made much name for the brand over the years. These original Omega watches are very expensive. You can buy the replica Omega watches at a fraction of the cost of the original watch. ReplicaExpert.US store is selling several Omega replica watches like Constellation, Deville, Planet Ocean, Railmaster, Seamaster, and Speedmaster.
