5 Differences between Swiss Movement and Japanese Movement Rolex Watches
- December 8th, 2009Rolex watches are originally produced in Switzerland with Swiss movements. These watches are now sold the world over and you can buy Swiss movement Rolex watches and Japanese movement Rolex watches. Essentially, the Swiss movement Rolex watches are superior in all ways to the Japanese movement Rolex watches. We have listed 5 differences between the Swiss movement and Japanese movement used in the Rolex watches.
# 1: Rolex watches with Swiss made ETA 2824, 27 jewel perpetual movement at a speed of 28800 aph are available. This ETA movement is made in Switzerland by ETA. The Japanese Movement watches use the Miyota 25 jewel automatic movement made in Japan. The watch case might be produced anywhere in the world where it is convenient and as per the required design.
#2: To buy a good quality watch you have to consider the price tag on the watches. You would like to wear a high quality watch but at the same time you do not want to spend huge amounts on it. The Swiss Rolex watches are more expensive when compared to the Japanese movement watches. The Japanese watches are lower in price by a few hundred dollars as it is more convenient and cheaper to produce these movements in Asia. The high prices of the original watches has led to the increase of popularity of Rolex replica watches.
#3: There are claims that the Japanese watch glass might be made from mineral crystal rather than with sapphire crystal. This is a difference to note for as you are paying lower for the Japanese watch and probably having the sapphire crystal in that price is a little difficult! However the elegance of the Rolex brand would be maintained in the Swiss and Japanese movement watches. The watches will be scratch proof. Both mineral crystal and sapphire crystal can be scratch proof.
#4: Most Japanese movement Rolex watches will come with 10 microns of 18 carat gold plating. The Swiss Rolex watches use triple wrapped 18 carat gold plating. The original Rolex watches use genuine gold and hence are very expensive. This gold makes the watch very strong and hence the watch lasts for ever. When you compare the Japanese Rolex watch to the same model of the Swiss Rolex watch, you will find the weight slightly lower. The steel used for Japanese movement watches is probably industrial quality steel and hence lighter in weight. Industrial steel is equally strong. But the solid steel used for Swiss Rolex watches is heavier and hence stronger. Moreover, if solid gold is used instead of gold plating on original Swiss Rolex watches then that would make the watch quite heavy.
#5 : The engraving in the lungs, where the watch case meets the bracelet is hand engraved in the Swiss Rolex watches. This engraving might be similarly done for the Japanese movement watches but might not result in perfect engraving. This can be a reason for the lower price of Japanese movement watch. Normally your friends and family will not be able to tell the differences, but a watch connoisseur might be able to tell the original from a replica watch and also the difference between Swiss Rolex watch and a Japanese Rolex watch.
